Yes, We’re Crazy

This is actually the reason I “forgot” to activate my bank account and pick up my black pants from the tailor shop! I got so into editing this video. I am just a beginner so please excuse my work. Haha!

It was my cousin Princess’s birthday so she invited us to have dinner at her and her sibs’ place in Manila. We thought of making a music video of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. Honestly, the video made by a group of Filipino celebrities inspired us to make our own! Their video (posted below) gained 1.2 million hits in 2 or 3 weeks!

Of course, we’re not expecting to hit that but I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it. Here is our version (I edited the old one and this is the improved version).

Some details:

  • Notice that we were wearing pajama-like outfits in the indoor scenes. Princess, a med intern, “required” us to wear scrub suits. She wanted it to be a scrub suit party! (Yeah, she had a lot of laundry after, including the jackets).
  • It was Nikki’s and Princess’s first time to hear the song Call Me Maybe.
  • We started with the video a little late because we had to wait for MM, a nurse. Her duty that day ended at 10 PM and a travel time of 1 hour, we started at around 11 PM.
  • Our cousin Dave, Princess’s brother, was already sleeping when we did the indoor scenes. He was at the upper bed.
  • Princess was holding a Bacardi Gold bottle that we were drinking before we started filming.
  • MM covered the bunk bed to hide the mess but because we’re so unruly, the blanket kept falling.
  • Princess had a duty in the hospital the following day so she wasn’t present in the swimming pool scenes.

I will surely miss this kind of “happynings” and these lovely girls!

Few shots before shooting :p

Clockwise: MM, Nikki, Princess, Yeye, Cha, Me!

Hello friends!

I do not have a Facebook account to share my posts from this blog so I created a Facebook page for I Dip My Toes in the Water! I am really trying hard to utilize all the social networking sites so that I will  gain more friends and followers to share my beautiful life experiences.

I hope you also share this Facebook page to your friends and followers. Please click “Like” on the sidebar to be one of the firsts!

Thank you!

“One out of four children in developing countries are underweight” – WFP

According to UN World Food Programme, the Top 4 Hunger Stats are:

Hunger is the world's No. 1 health risk. It kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

One in seven people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight.

One out of four children in developing countries are underweight.

There are more hungry people in the world than the combined populations of USA, Canada and the European Union.

(Source and images from http://www.wfp.org/hunger/stats)

I live in a country where everyday I see malnourished children play in the streets.  It’s appalling and heartbreaking at the same time but I don’t know what to do about it.  All I know is that these children deserve not only food enough to fill them but their body and minds be fed with  nutritious meals.

We can eradicate HUNGER in our own little ways.  I’m glad I came across SocialVibe in Widgets.  Impressive how this social media helps companies advertise their brands, and at the same time, both work together to benefit worthy causes.  What’s more notable about this, the social media allows individuals to take part in helping these causes.

I hope you can be part of my fight against hunger and malnutrition.  Please help me save lives by clicking on the badge on the upper right of this page.  Your click counts. Thank you!

Man = pill

This was originally posted in My Notes in my deactivated Facebook account on 6 March 2011. I find it post-worthy here in the blogging world.

My cousin, after seeing my photos in Bicol:

“Ang ganda ng pics mo… Kulang na lang boyfriend” (kebs! haha!)

My bestfriend, after reading an intriguing message I sent her:

“Kapag wala ka pa ring boyfriend ng August, ipaparaffle na kita!” (may deadline teh?)

Nagmamadali kayo? Relak lang! darating ako diyan :)

When you’re sick, it doesn’t mean that you have to take in the first pill/medicine you see. You have to make sure that that is what you need or that is the cure for your illness. :) You wouldn’t want to get worse, would you?

My cousin was actually saying that my photos were beautiful but they could get better if I have a boyfriend with me in there. It was just weird coming from a guy cousin. I didn’t know that he would want me in another relationship, for someone to take care of me. But that’s sweet. And my bestfriend, she was half joking. As always. Too bad she failed to hold the raffle (and I bet no one dropped entries!) and it’s almost a year since I posted this yet I don’t have any.

Yeah, I tried to compare men with pills. Haha!

No One Compares To You

I could actually count the times we have seen each other for prolonged periods for the past 26 years of my life. This is because you have to work away from us so you could give us the best life possible.

Daughter’s Grievances

You were not there when I was born or even when my siblings were. A lot of times, you couldn’t be with us to celebrate our birthdays and yours as well. You were seldom present in our school events to witness how we, your children, have conquered our insecurities at school. We couldn’t go to church together as a family. We missed several Christmases and New Year’s Days together unlike other Filipino families.

And what I hate the most, the times when you had to leave for work after spending just a month or two with us. It hurts to see you leave again and again and again.

Father’s Love

However, distance from us did not crippled you from being the best father that you could be. We never felt that there were something missing in our lives. You never made us feel that “you weren’t there”. In fact, you were  ready to listen to my whining even if annoying. You were there to cheer me up when I felt so down. You were always there when my heart needed healing. Most importantly, you were always there to triumph with us in our achievements.

We appreciate how much you have sacrificed for not being with us to witness us  grow. I may never understand how hard it is to be a father but I understand that you only desire to be a good provider for your family.

For all the tears you’ve shed and for all the pain you’ve suffered from being away from us, I would like to assure you that no one compares to you.

Happy Father’s Day, Papa!

Of Freedom, Independence and Celebration

“But when I say ‘free’, I mean ‘free’: free from bond, of chain or command:to go where you will, even, even to Mordor Saruman, if you desire.”

- J. R. R. Tolkien

Nobody wants to be a slave of something or someone. That is why as humans, we always try to fight for our freedom. However, it is often that most people do not know what really freedom is for them.

Most may agree with me that freedom is…

“…being able to do whatever I want to do with people I love to be with, wherever and whenever I want to”

It’s simple but let’s admit that this simple life is not easy to achieve with the kind of life most people live today.

Why? For people do not have the freedom to choose especially those who are slaves to their jobs. Their actions are dictated by the companies they work for. Their companies tell them what time they should start and end their work. Companies set how many days they can go on a vacation. Companies give the people earning ceilings enough for them to get by when in fact, people should earn more than what they are paid for. People’s potentials are being limited by these job descriptions. People are robbed of time which should be spent with the most important people in their lives.

Despite these, most people just say, “I don’t have a choice. That’s just the way it is”. They just accept it that way and never fight for their freedom because their companies give them security. And it is sad that people trade temporary security over freedom. People feel so secure that they do not aim for a better life for their love ones, themselves and their future. What is more disheartening, people have this idea that they won’t be able to escape from slavery of an 8 to 5 job because they do not have any other option.

I also think, the problem with most people, they allow this chain of ignorance of freedom to hold them back.  Yes, security holds people back from achieving the freedom. They live each day having freedom at the back of their minds. Now, they forget what they truly value. They forget what is important in life. They forget their reason for waking up very early in the morning and staying up late at night. They forget for whom they offer the hard work from their sweat and blood.

I am willing to do anything to achieve the freedom that I want not only for myself but for the people who matter the most to me. And I guess everyone should.

However, we must remember that achieving freedom is not free. It is not like walking on a straight and smooth path. Freedom has its price. It is only those who are courageous and know what matters in life who take the road to freedom…

…just like those people who fought for this country’s liberty.

June 12 is Philippine Independence Day.

Philippine Declaration of Independence was ratified on 12 June 1898 to proclaim Philippine independence from colonial rule of Spain. Today is its 114th year!

Google celebrates with the Philippines!

Seriousness aside, I like you to know that today is also the 9th anniversary of the couple who has made a lot of impact in my life! I have witnessed their relationship from its first years and I am grateful to have learned a lot about life from them! I wish them a life of togetherness forever! My BFF and his King!

Lastly, I like to greet all my single friends, Happy Independence Day! Enough reason to celebrate? Yes!

Twitter World Reacts to Pacquiao vs. Bradley Bout

I am not a fan of boxing and I do not watch Manny Pacquiao‘s (or any other boxers’) fights but this is to show the world that I am not indifferent about the recent fight of Pacquiao versus Bradley. I don’t want to make comments since they are already overflowing in the internet (I even thought that my Twitter Timeline was going to explode literally!) We also know to whom that belt rightfully belongs.

I just want to share with you that it’s not only Filipinos who mourned over Pacquiao’s defeat. International personalities/celebrities/athletes rooting for Pacquiao also posted their frustrations on Twitter. So here is my compilation.

From fellow boxers:

Pacquiao accepted defeat graciously. I guess it’s enough for all of the bitterness and let us all move forward.

I am on Twitter! @auilarde @idipmytoes

Have you seen other reactions not posted here? Please let me know and I’ll add them on the list. :)
